Description

4-Bromo-1,8-naphthalic anhydride (CAS 81-86-7) is a halogenated cyclic anhydride used as a reactive intermediate in the synthesis of naphthalimide-based dyes, fluorescent pigments, and specialty polymers.

Its bromine substituent provides a versatile handle for further functionalization, making it a key building block in dye chemistry and materials science for various industrial applications.

In textile and printing applications, it serves as a precursor to high-performance fluorescent dyes used in fabric brightening and inkjet colorants. Polymer chemists incorporate it into polyimide backbones.

These high-temperature polymer backbones are utilized where controlled optical or electronic properties are required. The compound is also used in pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis for bioactive candidates.

The naphthalimide scaffold is elaborated through palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling or nucleophilic substitution at the bromine site. In specialty pigment manufacturing, it contributes to the production of vat dyes.

It is also used for solvent dyes for plastics coloration and packaging inks. 4-Bromo-1,8-naphthalic anhydride is supplied as a solid powder, typically in off-white to pale yellow form.

It is available in technical and high-purity research grades, with purity specifications commonly ranging from 97% to 99%+ depending on the intended application and specific requirements.

Packaging options range from small laboratory quantities to multi-kilogram industrial lots. This ensures flexibility for both research development and large-scale commercial manufacturing processes.
