Description

Polybutylene (CAS 9003-29-6), also supplied under the trade designation Amoco 15H, is a semi-crystalline polyolefin produced from butene monomer. It is used across plastics compounding and construction applications to modify flow behavior.

This material is essential to impart flexibility to finished polymer systems. In hot melt adhesives and sealants, it functions as a tackifier and rheology modifier, improving open time and bond flexibility without compromising structural integrity.

Pipe and plumbing systems in building construction have historically utilized this polymer for its resistance to creep under sustained pressure. This makes it a specified material in cold and hot water distribution networks.

Automotive underhood and interior components benefit from the material when compounded into polyolefin blends. In these applications, it softens rigid matrices and improves low-temperature impact performance for durable parts.

It is also incorporated into film and packaging formulations as a processing aid that reduces melt viscosity. This addition enhances surface finish and improves the overall efficiency of high-speed manufacturing lines.

The product is commercially available as pellets and granules suited for melt processing on standard extrusion equipment. Grades are differentiated primarily by molecular weight and melt flow index to match specific targets.

Supply is typically offered at technical grade, with specifications confirmed against manufacturer datasheets on a per-lot basis. This ensures consistent performance across various industrial injection molding applications.
