Description

Neohesperidin dihydrochalcone (CAS 20702-77-6), commonly known as NHDC, is a semi-synthetic sweetener derived from citrus bioflavonoids. At concentrations far below those of sucrose, it delivers intense sweetness with a characteristic cooling, menthol-like aftertaste.

Food manufacturers and flavor houses source it primarily as a high-potency sweetener and flavor modifier. In reduced-sugar and sugar-free formulations, including beverages and confectionery, NHDC functions as a bulk sweetener replacement.

Its use levels typically range between 15–50 ppm in dairy products and other food applications. Its flavor-modifying properties make it valuable for masking bitterness in pharmaceutical oral preparations and functional food products.

Personal care formulators incorporate it into oral hygiene products such as toothpastes and mouthwashes. In these applications, its sweetness profile and flavoring contribution significantly improve consumer palatability and overall product experience.

It also acts as a flavor enhancer and sweetness synergist when combined with other high-intensity sweeteners like steviol glycosides. This synergy allows formulators to reduce the total sweetener load while maintaining the desired taste profile.

NHDC is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder for industrial use. It is available in food-grade quality compliant with EU specifications (E 959) and meets FEMA 3811 recognition for flavoring use in the United States.

Purity grades of 98% and above are standard for commercial supply to ensure consistency. The product is handled according to strict quality standards to meet the requirements of the global food and pharmaceutical industries.
