Description

Sodium dehydroacetate (CAS 4418-26-2), also known as DHA-S and approved as E266, is the sodium salt form of dehydroacetic acid used as a broad-spectrum preservative across food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical applications.

Harven and Prevan are recognized trade designations for this ingredient in personal care markets. It controls microbial growth, particularly molds and yeasts, at low use concentrations across a wide pH range.

In food processing, E266 is approved for use in certain fruit and vegetable products, cut surfaces, and margarines where mold inhibition is required without affecting flavor profile.

Cosmetic formulators incorporate DHA-S into creams, lotions, and aqueous personal care products as a paraben alternative with reliable antifungal performance for various consumer goods.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it to extend shelf life in topical preparations and oral care products where microbial stability is a regulatory requirement for safety and efficacy.

It also functions as a stabilizer in some flavoring systems, preventing oxidative degradation in finished formulations. Sodium dehydroacetate is supplied as a white crystalline powder for easy handling.

Food-grade material conforming to FCC and E266 purity specifications is standard for food and cosmetic procurement. This ensures the highest safety standards for sensitive applications.

Technical-grade powder is available for industrial preservation applications where food compliance is not required. This grade offers a cost-effective solution for non-regulated manufacturing processes.
