Description

Sodium dipropionate (CAS 63785-15-9), also known as sodium propionate, is the sodium salt of propionic acid used as an antimicrobial preservative and pH buffer across food, feed, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

It inhibits mold and bacterial growth in finished products and during processing, extending shelf life without synthetic preservative blends. In baked goods, tortillas, and packaged bread, it controls mold and rope-forming bacteria.

This allows manufacturers to meet commercial shelf-life targets without refrigeration. Animal feed producers incorporate it into grain and compound feeds to suppress fungal contamination during storage and transit.

Pharmaceutical formulators use it as a buffering agent and mild preservative in topical preparations and oral solid dosage forms. Food-grade applications also include dairy products and processed meats.

In these sectors, it functions as a secondary hurdle against spoilage organisms. Sodium dipropionate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granule, with granulated forms preferred where dust control matters.

Standard grades include food-grade (FCC) and feed-grade specifications, with pharmaceutical-grade material available to USP or BP standards. These ensure compliance with global safety regulations.

Packaging ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk quantities suited to industrial-scale procurement. This versatility makes it a staple for large-scale chemical distribution and manufacturing operations worldwide.
