Stevia rebaudiana extract
Description
Stevia rebaudiana extract (CAS 91722-21-3), also marketed under the EU designation E960, is a natural, plant-derived sweetener concentrate obtained from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana.
It delivers intense sweetness at low use levels, functioning as a sugar replacement across food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications. In beverage manufacturing, it replaces sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup.
This extract is ideal for reduced-calorie soft drinks, flavored waters, and energy drinks without contributing caloric load. Confectionery and dairy producers use it to formulate sugar-free chocolates and yogurts.
It is also used in ice creams where clean-label positioning is a commercial priority. Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturers incorporate it as a masking agent in oral syrups and chewable tablets.
It is frequently used in dietary supplements to improve palatability. Tabletop sweetener brands also blend it with bulking agents such as erythritol or maltodextrin to produce consumer-facing retail formats.
Stevia rebaudiana extract is supplied as a white to off-white powder, with liquid concentrate forms available for direct beverage processing. Standard grades include food-grade specifications meeting FCC and Ph. Eur. requirements.
Rebaudioside-A content typically ranges from 80% to 97% purity. Organic-certified material is available for clean-label and certified-organic product lines to meet specific manufacturing standards.
