Rebaudioside A
Description
Rebaudioside A (CAS 58543-16-1), commercially known as Reb A, is a high-purity steviol glycoside extracted from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana. It delivers intense sweetness estimated at 200 to 400 times that of sucrose. With zero caloric contribution, it is a primary ingredient of interest for sugar reduction programs across food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications. In beverage formulation, it replaces sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup in carbonated drinks.
It is also used in flavored waters and ready-to-drink teas while meeting clean-label consumer expectations. Dairy and bakery manufacturers incorporate it into yogurts, ice creams, and reduced-sugar baked goods where caloric targets must be met. Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical producers use it to mask bitterness and improve palatability in oral dosage forms, syrups, and dietary supplements. It also appears in tabletop sweetener blends, often combined with erythritol or inulin.
Rebaudioside A is supplied as a white to off-white powder in varying purity grades, typically ranging from 60% to 99% content on a dry basis. Food-grade material is available to FCC and JECFA specifications. High-purity grades meeting USP and Ph. Eur. standards are available for specialized applications. Bulk supply is standard in 25 kg bags, with smaller packaging available for R&D or pilot-scale procurement needs.
