1H-Tetrazole
Description
1H-Tetrazole (CAS 288-94-8), also referred to as 1,2,3,4-tetrazole, is a nitrogen-rich heterocyclic building block used across pharmaceutical synthesis, agrochemical development, and specialty chemical manufacturing.
Its high nitrogen content and bioisosteric properties make it a target intermediate for drug discovery programs and crop protection research. In pharmaceutical development, it functions as a carboxylic acid bioisostere.
This enables medicinal chemists to modify drug candidates for improved metabolic stability and membrane permeability without altering core pharmacological activity. Agrochemical formulators incorporate it as a synthetic intermediate.
It is used in the production of fungicides and herbicides where specific heterocyclic scaffolds are required. In polymer chemistry, tetrazole derivatives act as photoactivatable crosslinkers and polymerization initiators.
These derivatives support the production of specialty polymers and photoresist materials. Biotechnology researchers also use it as a coupling reagent in oligonucleotide synthesis for automated DNA/RNA assembly.
It activates phosphoramidite monomers during the assembly process. 1H-Tetrazole is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder and is available in research-grade and technical-grade specifications.
High-purity lots (≥98–99%) are commonly offered to meet pharmaceutical intermediate and synthesis requirements. Packaging ranges from gram-scale quantities for laboratory use to kilogram batches for procurement.
