n-acetyl-L-tyrosine
Description
N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (CAS 537-55-3), commonly abbreviated as NALT, is the acetylated derivative of L-tyrosine offering significantly improved water solubility compared to the free amino acid.
This property makes it the preferred form for parenteral nutrition formulations and high-load aqueous systems where standard tyrosine would be impractical to dose. It functions as a bioavailable amino acid source.
It also acts as an antioxidant stabilizer across pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturing. In clinical and parenteral nutrition, NALT is incorporated into intravenous amino acid solutions where its enhanced solubility allows delivery.
Therapeutic tyrosine levels can be delivered without precipitation. Cosmetic formulators use it as an antioxidant and UV-stabilizing agent in serums, creams, and photoprotective products to protect skin from oxidative stress.
It also appears in oral dietary supplement capsules and powders targeting cognitive support, where the acetylated form is marketed for its absorption profile. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as a stabilizing excipient.
This is particularly useful in sensitive peptide-based drug formulations. N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine is supplied as a white crystalline powder. Standard grades include USP, BP, and food-grade specifications.
Pharmaceutical-grade material is the most commercially prevalent. Bulk quantities are available for industrial formulation, with smaller quantities offered for R&D and quality testing purposes.
