Description

Polyphosphoric acid (CAS 8017-16-1), commonly referred to as PPA, is a concentrated mixture of condensed phosphoric acids produced by dehydrating orthophosphoric acid. It functions as a high-efficiency phosphorylating and sequestering agent. This chemical is utilized across a range of industrial processes where standard phosphoric acid lacks sufficient reactivity or concentration. In asphalt and bitumen modification, PPA is used to improve rutting resistance.

It enhances high-temperature performance of paving binders, reducing the need for polymer additives. Water treatment operations use it to sequester hardness ions and inhibit scale formation and corrosion in distribution systems. In mining and metals processing, it supports pH regulation and acts as a flocculation aid in mineral separation circuits. Agricultural formulations incorporate PPA as a phosphorus source in fertilizer production.

Its high P2O5 content allows concentrated nutrient delivery for various crops. Polyphosphoric acid is supplied as a viscous liquid, typically in concentrations expressed as equivalent P2O5 content or percent H3PO4 equivalent. The 105% and 115% grades are the most commercially recognized options available. Technical grade is the standard offering for industrial buyers requiring high-performance chemical intermediates for their operations.

Bulk liquid supply in tankers or intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) is the norm for this material. This is necessary given the product's specific viscosity and specialized handling requirements during transport.
