Description

Psyllium husk powder (CAS 8063-16-9) is a natural soluble fiber derived from the seed husks of Plantago ovata, commercially recognized in food and pharmaceutical markets as ispaghula.

It functions as a bulk-forming agent and rheology modifier across food manufacturing, pharmaceutical dosage forms, and personal care formulations. In food production, it is used to improve texture and moisture retention.

This material is essential in gluten-free breads, baked goods, and high-fiber functional foods where it replaces gluten structure. Pharmaceutical manufacturers incorporate it into laxative products and fiber supplements.

It is also used in controlled-release tablet matrices where its gel-forming behavior regulates drug release and bulk. In personal care, it acts as a natural thickener and humectant in creams and masks.

The powder is used in hair care products, reducing reliance on synthetic polymers. Animal feed formulators use it as a fiber supplement and binder in various pelleted feed applications for livestock.

Psyllium husk powder is supplied as a fine off-white to cream-colored powder in a range of mesh sizes. It is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade specifications for industrial use.

Commonly stocked grades include USP and Ph.Eur. compliant materials for regulated applications. Organic-certified material is also commercially available for natural and clean-label product lines.
