Description

o-Tolyl biguanide (CAS 93-69-6), also known commercially as Aliant, is an organic guanidine-based accelerator used in rubber vulcanization and polymer curing systems. It functions as a secondary accelerator to achieve controlled cure rates. By activating primary accelerators, it improves crosslink density in finished compounds. In rubber manufacturing, it is used alongside thiazole or sulfenamide accelerators to produce tire components, seals, and industrial rubber goods.

These applications require consistent mechanical performance across various production batches. Latex compounding operations use it to achieve uniform vulcanization in dipped goods such as gloves and balloons. In these specific processes, cure uniformity directly affects product rejection rates and overall efficiency. In engineering plastics and polymer systems, it supports crosslinking reactions where controlled network formation is critical.

This dimensional stability is essential for end-use durability in demanding environments. It is also applied in specialty adhesive formulations where rubber-to-substrate bonding requires a defined cure profile. The material is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder for easy handling. It is available in technical grade, with purity specifications typically at 98% or higher to meet rubber industry processing requirements.

Packaging options generally range from kilogram-scale bags to bulk quantities suited to industrial compounding operations. This ensures flexibility for both small-scale specialty production and large-scale manufacturing needs.
