How EL-grade precursors are applied

Semiconductor & microchip fabrication

Front-end wafer processing requires 5N–6N for semiconductor-grade solvents (IPA, NMP, PGMEA), photoresists, dopants, and CVD/ALD precursors. Even ppb-level iron contamination measurably shifts threshold voltage in the resulting microchip. Wet-etch acids (HF, H₂SO₄, HCl) follow SEMI standards (C12, C8, C1).

Solar photovoltaic cells & modules

Solar photovoltaic manufacturing balances purity against cost — polysilicon at 6N–9N, dopants (POCl₃, BBr₃), anti-reflective coatings (SiH₄ for Si₃N₄ films), and module-grade EVA require consistently low ion content to avoid cell degradation under field UV exposure.

Lithium-ion batteries & energy storage

Battery electrolytes are purity-limited — LiPF₆ carries an HF spec below 50 ppm because residual acid corrodes the cathode and current collectors. NMC and LFP cathode metal sulfates (cobalt, nickel, manganese) are sourced at 3N5–4N5 with tight caps on sodium, calcium, copper, and chloride.

Printed circuit boards & general electronics

Downstream electronics assembly works at technical-to-electronic grade — plating baths (copper sulfate, gold cyanide), solder fluxes, ENIG chemistries, and conformal coatings. Trace organics and halides matter more here than ppb-level metals.
