Potassium acetate
Description
Potassium acetate (CAS 127-08-2), also known by the E-number E261, is an acetate salt used across food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic manufacturing as a pH buffer, preservative, and processing catalyst.
It delivers precise acidity control and stabilization in formulations where sodium-based alternatives are unsuitable. In food production, it functions as an acidity regulator and preservative in pickled products, sauces, and processed foods.
This ingredient offers a potassium-based alternative for sodium-restricted formulations. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as a buffering agent in injectable solutions, oral liquids, and dialysis fluids where controlled pH is critical.
In personal care, it regulates pH in creams, lotions, and hair care products while contributing mild preservation activity. Industrial and laboratory applications include its use as a catalyst in organic synthesis.
It is also utilized as a desiccant in certain chemical processes. Potassium acetate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granules, and in some cases as a concentrated aqueous solution for industrial use.
Standard grades include food-grade (FCC), USP, BP, and Ph.Eur., supporting use across regulated food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications. These standards ensure high purity for sensitive manufacturing.
Technical-grade material is available for industrial and catalytic uses where pharmaceutical compliance is not required. This versatility makes it a staple chemical for diverse manufacturing sectors globally.
