Potassium ferrocyanide

Potassium ferrocyanide (CAS 13943-58-3), also known commercially as E536 and tetrapotassium hexacyanoferrate, is an inorganic iron-cyanide salt.

Where is Potassium ferrocyanide used?

• Food production: anti-caking additive in table salt and salt substitutes, preventing clumping during storage and packaging
• Metal processing: selective precipitant of heavy metals, particularly copper and zinc, from process streams and wastewater
• Winemaking: fining agent that removes excess copper and iron ions
• Textile and leather dyeing: reducing auxiliary and fixative
• Blue pigment formulations, including Prussian blue production
• It is also used in industrial separation processes.

Good to know: Food-grade material meets E536 specification and purity requirements for edible salt applications; technical grade is for industrial water treatment, mining, and dyeing where food compliance is not required.
