Lithium bromide
Description
Lithium bromide (CAS 7550-35-8), commonly abbreviated as LiBr, is an inorganic salt used across industrial refrigeration, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and life sciences. It functions primarily as an absorption refrigerant and a desiccant in gas drying systems.
In commercial HVAC and industrial cooling, LiBr serves as the absorbent fluid in absorption chiller systems. Its strong affinity for water vapor drives the refrigeration cycle without mechanical compression, making it a reagent in specialized chemical synthesis.
Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as a reagent in synthesis and as a buffering agent in select formulations requiring controlled ionic conditions. In biotechnology and life sciences, LiBr solutions are used to precipitate and purify RNA.
These solutions enable downstream molecular biology workflows and critical research processes. Water treatment operations apply it in specific biocide and pH-regulation contexts where lithium-based chemistry is specified for industrial systems.
Lithium bromide is supplied as a white crystalline powder or in concentrated aqueous solution. Solution concentrations are commonly at 55% for absorption chiller applications to ensure maximum efficiency in large-scale cooling operations.
Standard grades include technical, pharmaceutical (USP), and high-purity laboratory grades to meet the distinct requirements of industrial, compendial, and research procurement. This ensures compliance with global manufacturing standards.
Bulk quantities are available for industrial refrigeration supply chains, with smaller packagings offered for pharmaceutical and laboratory use. We provide consistent quality and reliable logistics for all industrial and research applications.
