Description

Trans-Crotonic acid (CAS 107-93-7), also known by its FEMA 3908 designation, is an unsaturated organic acid used as a flavoring agent and acidulant in food and cosmetic applications.

It functions as a pH regulator, preservative component, and reactive monomer in polymer synthesis for coating and adhesive systems. In food and beverage formulations, it contributes flavor modulation and mild acidulant activity.

The material is recognized under its FEMA code for use in approved flavoring compositions. Cosmetic and personal care formulators incorporate it into film-forming polymers and fixative resins for hair care products.

In these applications, it provides controlled hold and flexibility. In industrial coating systems, it acts as a copolymerizable monomer to modify resin hardness, adhesion, and film durability for various surfaces.

Its buffering capacity also makes it relevant in preservation systems where pH control supports antimicrobial efficacy. Trans-Crotonic acid is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline solid for industrial use.

Standard commercial grades include food-grade material meeting FEMA specifications and technical-grade product for polymer applications. Packaging is typically offered in kilogram quantities for specialty use and larger bulk formats.
