Cinnamic acid
Description
Cinnamic acid (CAS 140-10-3) is a naturally occurring organic acid used across fragrance, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and polymer applications. Known in trade as trans-cinnamate, it functions primarily as a UV absorber and flavoring acidulant.
In personal care and cosmetics, it serves as a key building block for cinnamate-based UV filters used in sunscreen formulations. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as a synthesis intermediate for active ingredients and as a pH modifier.
In flavors and fragrances, it contributes warm, balsamic notes to fine fragrance compounds, soap bases, and flavoring blends. Polymer and resin formulators incorporate it as a photosensitive crosslinking agent in UV-curable coatings.
This material is also utilized in photoresist systems for printing and packaging applications. Cinnamic acid is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder available in food-grade and technical-grade specifications.
The food-grade material conforms to FCC standards for use in flavoring applications. Pharmaceutical-grade material meeting USP or BP specifications is also commercially available for regulated manufacturing.
Our supply chain ensures consistent purity and particle size distribution for industrial use. We provide comprehensive documentation including certificates of analysis and safety data sheets for all commercial shipments.
