Clopidogrel
Description
Clopidogrel (CAS 113665-84-2), marketed under names such as Plavix and Zyllt, is an antiplatelet active pharmaceutical ingredient used in the manufacture of finished cardiovascular drug products.
It functions by inhibiting platelet aggregation, making it a critical API for prescription medication production. Clopidogrel is the active ingredient in oral tablet formulations targeting the prevention of thrombotic events.
Contract manufacturers and generic drug producers source it as a primary API for solid dosage form development, including immediate-release tablets. Pharmaceutical formulators rely on it to meet bioequivalence requirements.
It is also used in clinical research settings where API-grade material is required for formulation studies and stability testing. Clopidogrel is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder.
The material is typically provided as the bisulfate salt form, which is the commercially dominant specification. Material is available to USP and Ph. Eur. pharmacopoeial standards.
These quality specifications support regulatory submissions in major markets. Procurement is generally handled in kilogram to multi-kilogram quantities suited to clinical batch or commercial-scale manufacturing.
