Description

N-Hydroxysuccinimide (CAS 6066-82-6), commonly abbreviated as NHS, is a key reagent in bioconjugation chemistry used to activate carboxylic acid groups for stable amide bond formation.

It enables efficient coupling of proteins, peptides, antibodies, and other biomolecules to surfaces, linkers, or drug payloads. NHS is extensively used in the synthesis of NHS esters.

These are reactive intermediates for antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) manufacturing and targeted therapeutic development. In diagnostic kit production, it enables immobilization of biomolecules onto solid supports.

Common supports include beads, membranes, and microplates. Peptide synthesis and PEGylation workflows rely on NHS-activated intermediates to achieve controlled, site-specific conjugation under mild aqueous conditions.

Cosmetic and personal care formulators also use NHS-based crosslinking chemistry in the development of hyaluronic acid derivatives and biomaterial scaffolds for various medical and aesthetic applications.

N-Hydroxysuccinimide is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is available in pharmaceutical-grade and research-grade specifications for diverse industrial and laboratory needs.

High-purity grades (≥98%, ≥99%) are commonly required for GMP bioconjugation and API intermediate applications. Packaging ranges from laboratory-scale quantities to bulk industrial supply.
