Sodium citrate dihydrate (CAS 6132-04-3), also known as trisodium citrate dihydrate, is the crystalline hydrated form of sodium citrate.

Where is Sodium citrate dihydrate used?

• Food and beverage: emulsifying salt in processed cheese and buffering agent in carbonated drinks, sports beverages and gelatin-based products
• Pharmaceuticals: stabiliser of anticoagulant solutions, oral medications and effervescent tablets
• Personal care: pH adjuster in creams, shampoos and cleansing products and chelator of trace metals
• Water treatment: sequestrant controlling scaling and component of cleaning-in-place (CIP) formulations
• It functions as a buffering agent, pH regulator and sequestrant that binds metal ions.

Good to know: Technical grade is available where pharmacopeial certification is not required.
