Description

Ammonium glycyrrhizate (CAS 53956-04-0), also known as monoammonium glycyrrhizinate or by the trade name Glycamil, is the ammonium salt form of glycyrrhizic acid derived from licorice root.

It functions as a sweetener, flavor modifier, and stabilizing agent across food, pharmaceutical, and personal care manufacturing. In food and beverage production, it intensifies sweetness and masks bitter or harsh off-notes.

This ingredient is used in confectionery, tobacco flavorings, and functional beverages. The FEMA 2528 designation supports its use as a recognized flavor ingredient for various industrial applications.

Pharmaceutical formulators incorporate it as a buffering and stabilizing agent in oral preparations. It helps maintain product integrity across varying pH conditions during the manufacturing and storage process.

In personal care, it is used in skin-soothing formulations such as creams, serums, and toners. Its ability to retain moisture and reduce irritation supports specific product performance claims for sensitive skin.

Oral care products, including toothpastes and mouthwashes, also use it for flavor enhancement and mild antimicrobial support. Ammonium glycyrrhizate is supplied as a white to off-white powder for easy blending.

It is available in food-grade and cosmetic-grade specifications, with purity levels typically at 95% or higher. Pharmaceutical-grade material conforming to USP or BP standards is also commercially available.

These high-purity options are suitable for regulated applications requiring strict quality control. The material is stable under normal storage conditions and provides consistent performance in diverse formulations.
