Description

Calcium iodate (CAS 7789-80-2), also designated E916, is an inorganic iodine salt used commercially as an iodine source and oxidizing agent across food, feed, and personal care applications. It delivers controlled iodine supplementation and mild oxidizing activity in finished formulations and manufactured products. In animal feed, it functions as a trace mineral premix component.

This material supplies bioavailable iodine to livestock and poultry to meet nutritional specifications. Bread and baked goods manufacturers use it as a dough conditioner to improve processing. Its oxidizing action strengthens gluten structure and improves consistency. In personal care, it is incorporated into oral care products such as mouthwashes and toothpastes as an antimicrobial agent.

Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulators source it as an iodine fortification ingredient for tablets and dietary supplements targeting iodine deficiency in various populations. The product is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granules, with particle size and flowability specifications available to suit premix blending or direct compression processes.

Standard grades include food-grade and feed-grade material complying with FCC and relevant pharmacopoeial standards. Technical-grade material is also available for industrial applications.
